Search has been designed for organisations wishing to present an exclusive search application for their own documents or for searching information available on the internet. Due to its use of natural language technology, the application is well suited to offer their users more efficient, faster, and better access to their information. An example may include a commercial company who wants to make its archives more accessible to employees. Or a professional non-profit organisation wishing to build a web portal where their clients can access all sorts of information on a particular subject. First, the application asks you to submit the documents you want to make searchable in a database. There is no limit to the number and they may be written in any of the six languages currently available. Next the document texts are expanded with all kinds of related terms. Then from the expanded document texts a list of strongest and best keywords is generated. This index can be translated in any of the six languages. Once you define the way you would like users to interact with the program through the provided (or custom-created) interface, the documents, index, and interface can be installed on your Intranet or website.
When visitors start the application and enter their query, the words they type in will be translated to all languages that are included in the program. A comparison is made between the results and the index, and the user is presented with the most relevant pages in their original language. Links to on line translation services are provided to clarify found texts.
You are allowed to modify and re-index your database or to make new ones as often as you want.

Though in practice it may retain the look and feel of other search engines, Search is a different kind of search engine than most of us are used to. Language technology and advanced statistics guarantee a much higher recall & precision (more relevant and less irrelevant documents) than current search engines used on the internet. Once entered, a query is automatically expanded using language concepts such as synonyms, hyponyms and hyperonyms - in other words, the engine returns with hits on the meaning of a query rather than just its content.
Also unique to TwentyOne Search is the multi- and cross-lingual functionality. Currently the program can handle six languages - Dutch, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. And more, it is possible to both enter queries in your own language as well as retrieve documents in multiple languages.
The search on meta data module is also special, allowing searches to be restricted to specific parts, for example all documents of a certain date or region. This pre-selection is based on the meta information of the documents.

Default TwentyOne Search contains the product TwentyOne Capture. This program helps you to add all kinds of data (PDF, Word, Exel, and so on.) to your database. Capture contains a number of conversion tools to transfer the documents to the TwentyOne format (XML).
But Search can be expanded with more TwentyOne products. TwentyOne Sinope is usefull to automatically generate text summaries to offer search results at a glance. With TwentyOne Dialogue users can enter your database via conversation. And TwentyOne Classify can be added to automatically classify documents. This is very useful for category searches, especially for organisations that are continuously adding new documents to their database, such as media services.
With TwentyOne Search you can create databases and make them searchable over the web. With the same effort you can distribute your searchable databases on CD-roms.
